| The
First American Dendrochronology Conference -
AmeriDendro 2008 - is intended for
academics, scientists, students, and managers interested in tree-ring research and
its application in climatology, environmental sciences, archaeology,
geology, resource management, conservation,
policy, and society. The primary focus of
the conference is on tree-ring research in North and South America,
but studies from other areas of the world are
encouraged.
The 2008 meeting will be the first of a series
of AmeriDendro
Meetings, which are scheduled to be held every
fourth year opposite the four-year rotation of
the International Dendrochronological Congresses
(the next one of which will be held in Finland
in 2010). We encourage presentation of
works-in-progress, innovative directions, and
controversial topics, and we especially
encourage young scientists to present their
research at the meeting.
NEW! The schedule
for the week has been posted (as
an Excel file, or as
a PDF file).
The conference
venue is the
University of British Columbia's spectacular
Point Grey campus in Vancouver, British
Columbia. The
conference registration fee
will include an evening banquet mid-week at the
Sage Bistro, coffee
breaks, an opening evening reception and poster
presentation, and an early-week "mentor's lunch"
where students will have an opportunity to lunch
with academics and professionals in the various
sub-disciplines of tree-ring research.
Accommodations will be provided by
UBC's Gage Towers, and we have been able to
arrange several budget-minded lodging
options to encourage student participation.
The conference is
being held in conjunction with the 18th Annual
North American Dendroecological Fieldweek.
The Fieldweek this year will be held
at the
Double Diamond Hostel at Apex Mountain in
British Columbia, the week before the conference
from 13 to 21 June.
We also have
two
optional field trips before the
conference (click on the links for trip details):
Saturday 21 June,
Garry Oak Forests on
Salt Spring Island
Sunday 22 June,
Temperate
Old-Growth Forests in
Coastal North Vancouver
Sponsors for
the meeting include
The Tree-Ring Society
and
CanDendro, the Canadian Dendrochronological
Society. If interested in helping to
co-sponsor this year's meeting or for further
information about the meeting in general, please contact
either Lori Daniels at UBC (daniels [at]
geog.ubc.ca) or Peter M. Brown, President of the
Tree-Ring Society (pmb [at] rmtrr.org).
We hope to
see you this summer in beautiful British
Columbia!
